New website launched

The new Cordell Country website has gone live - http://www.cordellcountry.org/ - with new interactive maps fo the suggested routes and places that inspired Cordell to write his books on the people of south Wales. Take a look - there are loads of ideas for days out in south Wales.

  1. Congratulations and well this. This is an excellent idea that deserves to be a real success.

Looking at the map above, it has many of the key sites in Alexander Cordell's novels but, hopefully, it will be expanded on in time.

Cordell's novel, The Fire People, is about Wales' first Labour martyr Dic Perderyn. While Dic lived most of his life in Merthyr, he was from Port Talbot.

The Fire People tells of Dic leaving Taibach and going to Merthyr via Maesteg.

After his unjust execution, Dic was buried in the grave yard of St. Mary's Church in Port Talbot. Some years ago the construction union, UCATT, paid for a headstone for his grave. It remains in place today.

  2. I'm pleased to hear that you are a Cordell Fan - the next Cordell Festival will be at Rhondda Heritage Park on 18th and 19th September - it would be great to see you there!
